He Made Me Smile

The last thing Mr. Larry Yeagley did for me was make me smile.

That morning I planned on going to a flower picking farm. I got in the car and driving past his house I saw him sitting on his porch pruning his bushes. And I just smiled big. Immediately a little saying popped into my head “you just can’t keep a good man down!” With flowers picked, I returned home and there on our street was the ambulance.

Mr. Yeagley was one of those men who always had something wise to say. And even if it wasn’t all that wise, well just the way he said it made it seem so. He had a dry humor, but it did not keep him from laughing when he thought something he said was funny. I always enjoyed his chuckles. In my days of listening to Mr. Yeagley’s sermons, they were never super dynamic, never fire and brimstone. But what they were was 100% sincere. Mr. Yeagley was the embodiment of God’s requirements He shared with the prophet Micah.

“…and what does the Lord require of you? To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.”

It is because of that, I am confident my fleeting thought that morning when seeing him pruning away is even more the truer! You just can’t keep a good man down.

Ain’t no grave gonna hold his body down. When he hears that trumpet sound, he’s gonna rise up out of the ground. Because our Jesus walked out of the grave, Mr. Yeagley is walking, too.

Praise God for that great hope and blessed assurance. What a glorious day that will be!
