In His Hands

As I read in my new “The Chosen” devotional book, a paragraph jumped out at me and I’ve been thinking about it.

What, of worth, have you held in your hands? Whether literally or figuratively, what have you held of importance?

Literally, I’ve held my newborn babies. I’ve held hands. My love’s. My boys’. Patient’s. I’ve held my Dad’s warm and cold hand. I’ve held dogs and flowers, medicine and instruments. Figuratively, I’ve held responsibilities; at home, work, church and school. I’ve held a little authority, but mostly only over myself.

So what does Jesus hold?

Which brings me to the paragraph from “The Chose.”.

Speaking about the Jewish leaders’ questioning of his authority:

“Simply put, Jesus spoke by his OWN authority. Of course, He was never at a loss for how to respond to questions or how to interpret the Law – He wrote it. Of course, He didn’t fear the Romans or any other governing body -empires rose and fell by his word. The authority with which He spoke was His own. He is the one who whispered the world into existence, who holds planets in orbit and mountains in their place; who commands tides to rise and orchards to bloom; who created things like E minor and puppies; who rose from the dead…”

So what does Jesus hold?

Only everything! Every. Thing.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

“He’s got the whole world in his hands” is an oldie but goodie! He’s got us. He holds us. He holds everything together.

That’s great encouragement to me! 2020 has gone off the rails! Everyone has a loud opinion on everything, and woe to anyone who disagrees! Sickness and violence and insanity has been unleashed.

I am thankful for the reminder of His all-encompassing authority. Jesus created it, and He controls it. Still. His hand is righteous and strong. Even today.
