Good, Good Father

I work with a short spitfire of a good nurse. LIFE in all
caps tends to happen a lot to Shorty. On our most recent Northwest Arkansas icy, snowy, uber-cold Fall day, LIFE saddled right up to Shorty once again. Here’s her story:

After working 12 hours on a busy labor floor, Shorty thawed her car out enough to start driving home. Shortly into the trip her gas light came on, followed by the powering engine down light. Because Shorty has had previous experience with LIFE, she knew this was not good. Not good at all! She was barely able to get the car off the road. With no heat, thin pants, and no socks, Shorty called her husband. No answer. She called again. No answer again. On her third call, Shorty’s husband answered, but with a bit of a snip in his voice. (Now I know Shorty’s husband is a really nice guy, and I’m sure he actually deserves a medal because…well…Shorty…) But, Shorty Spitfire hung up on him. She then did what all good southern spitfires do, she called her Daddy.

Daddy Shorty came to the rescue. He put her in his warm car. He brought gas. And when Husband Shorty finally got there, Daddy Shorty took some righteous control and sent Shorty home in his vehicle. Daddy Shorty was not happy with Husband Shorty for not ensuring his baby spitfire was gassed up on that dangerously cold day. After Shorty could laugh about the situation, this gave her much pleasure! Daddy Shorty took good care of his girl that night. He was a good, good father!

The Thanksgiving season is upon us! We are thankful for so many things. We are thankful for all the blessings that we have in our lives. For our family and friends, our homes, our met provisions. We are thankful for our new babies, and our furry ones. Our health, our jobs! There is always something to be grateful for!

But most of all, may we be so thankful, so grateful, so humbled, may we be full of joyful pleasure for our Good, Good Father. He comes to warm our hearts. He comes to fuel our souls. And when LIFE happens to us, he comes burning with righteous love for each one of us–his children.

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Psalm 100:5)
