Does Christ Belong in Christmas?

Are you in the Christmas spirit yet? I am! The tree is up with all my beloved old and new ornaments. There’s good smells from cinnamon and pine candles throughout the house. A few gifts are even already under the tree! Scruffy has a new Christmas sweater, hot chocolate is being drunk, and Christmas cards should arrive any day!

Lately, I’ve been listening to a podcast by Ben Shapiro. Today I listened to a good one with Ben, who is Jewish, and two other Christian conservative commentators. It was basically about how Judeo-Christian beliefs have shaped our way of life in regards to morality and values for a very long time. They focused in on the history of Christmas, which was very thought provoking! Turns out Christ was really not in Christmas in the beginning. The history, from its earliest roots, to becoming a national holiday, and then to becoming a family friendly holiday, is all very interesting.

Today, we try to squeeze in a little baby Jesus along with a lot of Santa, elves, snowmen, and bright lights. It’s truly a little weird if you think about it!

I’m sure a heated debate of Christ in Christmas could be had with those who have strong feelings on the once pagan holiday, while some of us are indifferent. But I hope we can all agree that Christ can be in our hearts and minds every day. The birth of Christ is as much an amazing miracle as his death and resurrection.

Does Christ belong in Christmas? I believe he does as much as he belongs in our hearts every day of the year. He is a King who stepped off his throne in a very unexpected way. And He did it all for you and me! His love is truly astonishing!
