Be Still and Know . . .

As the bus left Denver my seatmate turned to me. I always get sad when I leave the city. I grew up with the sounds of the city in my ears. I get a lonely feeling just thinking about being away from the city.

What a strange man! He probably thought I was strange when I told him about my jaunts through the fields on our farm. I told him about the symphonies of crickets and redwing blackbirds that brought joy to my heart. I saw him shaking his head as I told about hearing the thumping of my heart as I crossed daisy covered meadows

I have spent years working in the noisy American cities. What a refreshing change to retire and hear bird song and the solo by a sassy squirrel. My back porch is my sanctuary. Be still and know that I am God is more than a Bible text to comprehend. It is a life changing promise to be lived every day.
