He Knows Our Name!

It has been said that “next to the Bible, nature is to be our great lesson book.” As parents, Tom and I have taken that to heart. We’ve attempted to instill in our boys a love for the great outdoors. We’ve been on a lot of hikes, had a lot of pets, and collected a lot of nature’s treasures.

It’s a lot of fun to see this amazing world through the lens of Ben’s camera. Photography is becoming a passion for him. He is happiest, even on a simple adventure, to get “the picture.”

From the majestic bald eagle, to the hopping armadillo, to the hawk’s piercing eyes, Ben’s pictures of animals are so cool! I can only imagine Adam’s garden full of God’s creations!

Recently, Ben has started shooting the night sky. The Milky Way shots are amazing!

“He determines the numbers of the stars and calls them by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power, His understanding has no limit.” Psalm 147:4,5

He calls the stars by name? How is that even possible?

“The heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1 Yes, indeed! The skies are unfathomable! We can’t even begin to wrap our minds around God’s creative greatness!

From sunsets to waterfalls to the beauty of a tree, nature shouts to us of a Maker. A Designer. A Creator who desires our hearts. “Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls, all your waves and breakers have swept over me.” Psalm 42:7 This is beautiful, isn’t it? In a passage where David is crying out, disturbed and downcast, he realizes that maybe the deep difficulties and challenges in our lives are calling for a deeper relationship with Him.

On Ben’s birthday, we went on a little adventure in search for “the picture” and ended up at Natural Falls State Park. Because of all the rain, the waterfall was roaring like we’d never seen it before. Off to the side was a big moss covered rock. And literally right out of that rock grew a tree. This tree had grown quite large. It was very cool! It immediately brought to my mind the thought of building our lives on the Rock, of growing from a firm foundation.

“Truly he is my rock and my salvation.” Psalm 62:6 It was a beautiful object lesson.

The great outdoors. Nature! Creation! It has lots of lessons for us to learn. It truly shouts to us of a Creator. A Maker of heaven and earth. And that same Creator of the clouds and Maker of the Milky Way- He also draws close to us. He knows our name. He knows our every thought. He sees each tear that falls. And he hears us when we call. (He Knows My Name)

Amazing, isn’t it?

“Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise, his greatness no one can fathom!” Psalm 145:3
