What Does Your Trail Look Like?

There is an area near the Destin, Florida bridge called Crab Island. It’s mostly known for the hundreds of boats that gather there, especially in the summer. Hundreds of people, literally boat to boat, having a good time. But I know Crab Island for its namesake…hermit crabs. They’re in abundance right under the bridge. This last trip, I was tickled to discover something! Hermit crabs leave a tiny little trail behind them. Their little claw-legs just “twinkle twinkle twinkle” through the sand and leave their prints behind.

I knew I wanted to write something about this adorable discovery, but I didn’t know what. Sadly, inspiration has come in the passing of Mr. George Fisher.

I laughed out loud to read Mrs. Melton’s Facebook post about how Mr. Fisher taught HER!  No offense, Mrs. Melton, but Mr. Fisher really has been around for a long time! He taught me History. Happenings. Wars. Dates. But in a way, he taught me some English, too. He taught me the true definitions of words. Integrity. Kindness. Intelligence. Humility.  Patience. Faithfulness. Cheerfulness. Solid. Steadfast. Godly.

Mr. Fisher has left his print behind. He’s left his mark. He’s left a trail of love decade after decade. Student after student. Friend after friend.

The little hermit crab’s trail will be quickly washed away. Erased, like he never “twinkled twinkled” through the sand. Mr. Fisher’s footprints may as well be etched in stone. They’ve left a forever mark in our lives and on our hearts.

I’m brought to this question. What kind of trail are we leaving? What kind of prints are we leaving behind?

A life well-lived, as Mr. Fisher lived, is a beautiful thing! It’s only outdone by the assurance of peacefully resting until we hear our Savior’s voice calling us awake! I look so forward to that day!

P.S.

I think the Voice that will call us awake just might be very similar to our beloved Mr. Fisher’s! 🙂
