Where Are We?

My sweet little red-headed man-child has had me giggling and shaking my head all week!

Here’s the story . . .

Last week he told Tom and me he was going backpacking with a group of college friends to the Smokies. We were excited for him! How fun! The trip was a success and he sent us some gorgeous pictures of his adventure. It started my Momma brain (the one that has yet to accept we may be having “vacations” with just 2 out of 3 kids) to thinking! Maybe…for Ben and Zack’s Spring Break, we could go To Tennessee and meet up with Jake and do a little camping trip in the Smokies!?

So…I texted Jake, “What is the name of that waterfall?”

He replied, “Greeter Falls.”

I Googled it.

Guess what? It wasn’t in the Smokies! Not even in the same direction. Not even close!

Jake was like…”Really? Hmm! Oops!” He had no idea where he was!

Bless his heart!!

But I’m thinking this! Where are we?

Sometimes we’re up. Sometimes we’re down. Sometimes we’re good. Sometimes we’re bad.  Sometimes life seems easy. Two cars in the garage and two cats in the yard. Succeeding kids and money in the bank. But just go blow a few hundred dollars at Silver Dollar City and you come home to a broken air conditioner, the start of the stomach plague in your family, and transmission problems in the family vehicle!

Sometimes our rose colored glasses keep us looking at this old world like it’s really not that bad. But then we lose a loved one. Then we face a diagnosis. And this old world is a hellhole.

Where are we?

This I believe! Whether we are up or down, in good times or bad. Whether we are in the Smokies or not! We are in His hands. It is certain. And it’s a good place to be!

PS

Google JJ Heller’s song “His Hands” . . .”when my world is shaking, heaven stands. When my heart is breaking, I never leave His hands.”
